Decorate versatile styrofoam wreaths to reflect any season or holiday. Create a fresh and festive look by enhancing a foam wreath with colourful faux flowers and other nature-inspired craft items, such as pine cones or fruit. Design customised wreaths for birthday and holiday gifts by incorporating the recipients' favourite flowers and colours into the craft. Add a pop of colour to your own home by displaying handmade floral wreaths on doors and walls.

  1. 1

Completely cover an 18-inch white styrofoam wreath base with acrylic spray paint. Choose a paint colour to coordinate with the overall look of the craft, such as green for a floral-inspired wreath. Allow the paint to completely dry.

  2. 2

Gather artificial flower heads with attached wooden picks. Choose flowers in colours to reflect the wreath's style, such as red and pink roses for a Valentine's Day display or orange, yellow and white tulips for a refreshing summertime look. Pick blooms in various sizes to create a balanced wreath.

  3. 3

Insert the picks of the largest flowers into the wreath base first. Stagger the bloom colours to create a balanced look.

  4. 4

Insert the picks of medium-sized flowers next, again staggering the colours.

  5. 5

Fill in any gaps with the smallest flowers. Use festive craft items other than flowers, such as pine cones and styrofoam fruit, to fill out the wreath instead if you desire. Wrap floral wire around the pine cones and attach them to bamboo floral picks prior to inserting them into the wreath. Poke the wired ends of the floral picks directly into the styrofoam fruit.

  6. 6

Secure the craft items onto the wreath base when every piece has been arranged. Place a dab of hot glue on the back of each flower head, pine cone or foam fruit piece and press it onto the base or onto each other if the items overlap.

  7. 7

Loop a wide ribbon through the completed wreath for hanging.
