How to Connect Xbox 360 to a Laptop VGA

Updated April 17, 2017

Connecting your Xbox 360 to the VGA component of your laptop will let you use your laptop as a monitor. Many laptops only have a video-out port which allows them to project the image on their screen to other monitors and projectors. However, most laptops have USB ports which will make a VGA cord compatible with the laptop and allow for video input. With an adaptor, the process of connecting your Xbox 360 to a laptop via VGA is quite simple.

Turn off and unplug both your Xbox 360 and laptop.

Insert the plugs of the AV cord into the AV ports on the Xbox 360.

Connect the VGA cord plug (large connector with small prongs) to the VGA end of the VGA-to-USB adaptor. Press them together until there is a snug fit.

Insert the USB plug of the VGA-to-USB adaptor into a free USB port on your laptop.

Plug in and turn on the Xbox. Press the power button on the front of the Xbox.

Plug in and turn on the laptop. Press the power button to power it on. Allow it to fully boot.

Go to the "Systems" section of your Xbox to configure the screen specifications. This section will be displayed on the screen of your laptop at this time. Choose a setting that will fit your laptop monitor size.
