The VTech 5.8 GHz phone has a digital answering system that acts the same way a voice mail feature works. You need to set up the system properly in order to start receiving messages. Because the system timestamps each message, you also need to set the clock on the phone to the proper date and time. You can also set other features, such as how many times the phone will ring before the system answers or a remote access code for checking messages from a remote phone.
