How to Disassemble a Dyson DC17 Animal

Updated February 21, 2017

When your Dyson DC17 Absolute Animal vacuum becomes dirty or breaks down, you will have to disassemble its parts to clean it or repair/replace parts. Additionally, you may want to disassemble it so that it fits inside a box for storage or for transport from one place to another. Dyson has designed the DC17 vacuum so that you can remove most parts without much effort. The most common parts to remove are the dust canister, reusable filter, telescopic wand and extension hose.

Turn off your Dyson DC17 Animal vacuum and unplug it from the electrical socket.

Press the dust canister release. Remove and empty the canister as needed. If you need to access the filter, lift up the filter housing cover in the bottom of the dust canister cavity in the vacuum and remove the filter.

Extend the telescopic wand. Push the wand release button. Pull the wand from your vacuum.

Push up on the hose lock tab where the hose connects to the back of the vacuum. Slide the hose from the vacuum.

Clean, repair or store the parts and vacuum body as needed.

If you need to access the brushbar for cleaning or to replace a belt, turn the vacuum so that the main floor nozzle faces up. Turn the screws a quarter turn counterclockwise using a screwdriver to unlock the soleplate. Flip the plate down to access the nozzle interior.
