Bookshelf speakers with a pre-drilled socket on the back panel can connect to speaker stands for adjustment to a range of heights that best suit your listening environment. Some speakers have keyhole-type mounts that simply fit over the bolt on the speaker stand. Others can be locked securely to the stand using a bolt and nut through a bracket that fits over the back of the speaker. Either way, be sure to buy stands that are rated to hold the weight of your speakers.

Moderately Easy

Things you need

  • Mounting hardware, typically included with the speaker stands.

  1. 1

Slide a keyhole speaker mount over the bolt protruding from the top of the speaker stand.

  2. 2

Lower the speaker so the narrow part of the keyhole locks itself onto the bolt of the spaker stand from the weight of the speaker.

  3. 3

Connect speaker stands with bracket mounts by inserting the bolt through the bracket and into the threaded hole on the back of the speaker. It's a standard hole size. Twist the knob on the end of the bolt by hand to tighten the bracket securely to the speaker.

  4. 4

Attach the bracket to the top of the speaker stand using the supplied bolt for the top of the stand. Twist clockwise to tighten by hand.

Tips and warnings

  • Some speaker stands feature a flat platform. The speaker simply sits on the platform; no hardware attachments are needed. These types of stands should be braced with the back of the speaker close to a wall to prevent the component from accidentally knocking off and hitting the floor.
