The Stator

The stator is located under an engine side cover, but the three yellow wires that run from it to the coil are easily accessed at an electrical connector near the control module. Using a multimeter, measure resistance of each of the stator legs. Your repair manual will tell you what specifications should be. If specifications are outside of acceptable range, replace the stator.

The Control Module

While the stator is unplugged, check the other end of the connector, which leads to the ignition control module. Your manual will also give you specifications for testing this component. If the module tests bad, replace it.

The Coil

The least common failure is the coil, so test this last. Your manual will also provide you with specifications to test the coil. If the coil is found to be faulty, replace it.
