How to Clean Hoover HEPA Filter Cartridges

Updated March 23, 2017

If your Hoover HEPA bagless vacuum seems like it is not picking up as well as it used to, you may need to clean the filter cartridge. You do not have to replace the filter as they fill. Instead, you can clean it with a soft brush. After cleaning it, you should notice a significant difference in the way the vacuum cleans. Clean the filter after or before each time you vacuum to keep its performance high.

Remove the filter from the vacuum. How the filter is removed depends on your model of vacuum. Typically, you must remove the canister that is locked into the body of the vacuum and the filter is inside.

Hold the filter over a garbage can or bag by one of the ends; do not hold it by the body. This is so the dust does not spill onto the floor of your home. It is best if you do this outside, too.

Dust the body of the filter with the brush over the can or bag, removing as much dust from the filter as you can.

Replace the filter in the canister and lock it back into your vacuum.
