Burlap is a coarse fabric made from hemp, flax or jute. Burlap is a natural beige colour, although it may be dyed. Burlap bags are used for produce and coffee because the fabric is breathable. The fabric is suitable for many craft projects. Making flowers from burlap is a quick and easy craft for both children and adults. Children may choose to design a single flower, while an adult may choose a more complex flower.

Instructions

  1. 1

Cut burlap into 15 cm (6 inch) squares.

  2. 2

Make a template for the flower pattern of choice. Pin the pattern to the burlap square, and cut the flower out of the burlap.

  3. 3

Use different-sized flowers to create a layered look. Place a dab of hot glue in the centre of the bottom flower, and then place the next flower on top. Let the pieces dry.

  4. 4

Cut leaves from remaining scrapes of burlap, and glue them to the underside of the flower.
