A BlackBerry is a smartphone and mobile e-mail tool developed in 1999 by Research in Motion. This all-in-one device has address book, Internet, portable media and Wi-Fi capabilities. Newer models include cameras and easy access to Internet programs like Facebook and Twitter. The BlackBerry even uses less power than other phones, giving it a long battery life. With all of these functions, losing a BlackBerry is frustrating, and you may feel disconnected from the world without it. Luckily, you can take various steps to locate your lost BlackBerry.

  1. 1

Have a friend or family member call your BlackBerry if it is lost at home. Locate the phone by listening to where the ringing or vibrating comes from. This is the easiest way to find your Blackberry.

Visit your phone provider's website and send a text message to your phone. Listen carefully for the BlackBerry's beep. Repeat until you find it.

  2. 2

Use Find My Phone by to locate a lost BlackBerry. This needs to be downloaded ahead of time. Find My Phone works by using three methods: it sets off a loud alarm, flashes the screen and vibrates. You can trigger the alarm in three ways: call the phone three times in a minute, e-mail the phone with a secret pass phrase or text your phone with the secret pass phrase. To text, go to your provider's website and send a text to your phone from there. Another option is to have a friend text your phone with the pass phrase.

  3. 3

Use GPS capabilities to find your BlackBerry with the Berry Locator application available at This program is more advanced than Find My Phone. Send an e-mail to your phone with a custom phrase, and your BlackBerry will generate noise even if it is programmed on silent. If you are not with your phone, the person who finds it can read the screen and know the phone is lost.

Check your e-mail if your BlackBerry has GPS enabled. Berry Locator will send a map of the location where your phone is, allowing you to backtrack and retrieve it or contact the place of business.

  4. 4

Follow your phone online with Berry Snooper software available at This locator program has two modes: lost mode and stolen mode. Similar to Berry Locator, you can text or e-mail your phone, and it will e-mail a map of your phone's location. In stolen mode, Berry Snooper sends you texts and e-mails with the phone location when the SIM card is changed. The responses are only sent to your Web portal on Berry Snooper, so others cannot gain access to your phone's location.
