One of the advantages the Internet brings is the option to download software instead of purchasing a physical disc. You don't have to bother with finding the disc in a store, and you don't have to worry about keeping the disc in a safe place. Electronic Arts offers most games for direct downloads, including "The Sims 2."

Skill level:

    EA Download Manager

  1. 1

Create an account at the EA website if you do not already have one.

  2. 2

Download the EA Download Manager (see Resources). You cannot begin downloading "The Sims 2" without this program.

  3. 3

Install and run the EA Downlaod Manager. The program will prompt you for your username and password. Put in the information for your EA account.

    Downloading "The Sims 2"

  1. 1

Purchase "The Sims 2" download version from the EA Store. As of December 2010, EA no longer supplies a stand-alone version. You can buy the "Double Deluxe" version, which has the original "The Sims 2" along with "The Sims 2: Nightlife" expansion pack and "The Sims 2: Celebration Stuff" pack.

  2. 2

Check for "The Sims 2" in the EA Download Manager after your purchase is complete. If you do not see the game, click the options button at the top-right of the window and select "Refresh My Games." It may take a few minutes for the game to show up.

  3. 3

Click the "Ready to Download" button under "The Sims 2" in the Download Manager. A confirmation window will pop up; click "Download Now." This begins the download of "The Sims 2."
