One of the advantages the Internet brings is the option to download software instead of purchasing a physical disc. You don't have to bother with finding the disc in a store, and you don't have to worry about keeping the disc in a safe place. Electronic Arts offers most games for direct downloads, including "The Sims 2."

Create an account at the EA website if you do not already have one.
Download the EA Download Manager (see Resources). You cannot begin downloading "The Sims 2" without this program.
Install and run the EA Downlaod Manager. The program will prompt you for your username and password. Put in the information for your EA account.

Purchase "The Sims 2" download version from the EA Store. As of December 2010, EA no longer supplies a stand-alone version. You can buy the "Double Deluxe" version, which has the original "The Sims 2" along with "The Sims 2: Nightlife" expansion pack and "The Sims 2: Celebration Stuff" pack.
Check for "The Sims 2" in the EA Download Manager after your purchase is complete. If you do not see the game, click the options button at the top-right of the window and select "Refresh My Games." It may take a few minutes for the game to show up.
Click the "Ready to Download" button under "The Sims 2" in the Download Manager. A confirmation window will pop up; click "Download Now." This begins the download of "The Sims 2."
