Whether you live in an area serviced by Vodafone, or you are moving to or visiting an area covered by the Vodafone network, you may be wondering what to do if you want to use your iPhone there. Fortunately, the process of using an iPhone with a Vodafone SIM is a simple one, no matter if you want to use an iPhone 4 or 3GS which you already have, or purchase a new one to activate.

Choose which iPhone model and plan you want to use. You can choose from monthly, pay-as-you-go, and SIM-only plans, depending on which meets your needs. If you already have an iPhone and only need the Vodafone SIM, the SIM-only plans provide you with service without requiring you to purchase a new iPhone. These are available for both the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS. See the available plans by visiting Vodaphone's website, found in the Resources section of this article.

  2. 2

Contact Vodafone to register for your account. You can do this in-person at a Vodafone store, by phone, or online. You will be expected to provide at least your name and a method of payment. If you are using an iPhone you already have, ask the representative to determine whether the phone is already unlocked. If it is locked, you may have to pay a fee in order to have the phone unlocked and ready for use on the Vodafone network.

  3. 3

Install the Vodafone SIM into your iPhone. Open the SIM drawer by inserting an unbent paper clip into the small hole on the top of the unit for an iPhone 3GS, and on the right side of the unit, as you are looking at the screen, for an iPhone 4. Place the SIM into the drawer that pops out. Remove your old SIM first, if you have one already in the drawer. If you are using an iPhone 4, write down the number on the back of your SIM before installing it.

  4. 4

Activate your account. If you do not already have the latest version of iTunes on your computer, download it from Apple's website. Install and run the program, then follow the prompts to create an Apple account if you do not already have one. With the program running, attach your iPhone to the computer and follow the prompts to activate your Vodafone account. If you are not using a new phone, back up your contacts and data before activating your new account.
