No matter how carefully you handle and protect your touch screen phone, accidents and scratches are a common occurrence. There's a whole market designed to supply kits just for the purpose of getting rid of such scratches and another market loaded with replacement screens. While purchasing a scratch removal kit may be your safest bet, you can give homemade treatments a try, too.

  2. 2

Rub the sandpaper, along with a bit of water, along the scratched areas of your touch screen until you've removed them. You may have to use some force according to D.C. photographer Carl Hutzler, but he found that the added pressure also rectified some unfavourable lines in his touch screen phone.

  3. 3

Mix the cerium oxide powder with water until you get a thick cream. The buffing process will gloss the matt finish left from sanding the scratches. The water will prevent the glass of your touch screen from overly heating the LCD display beneath the screen.

Apply the cerium oxide cream directly to the touch screen. Use the buffing/polishing wheel on the highest setting to buff the screen. Reapply the mixture every 10 seconds or so, recommends Hutzler, for about 30-40 minutes. Use a damp cloth to wipe your touch screen phone and check your progress periodically. Be careful not to apply too much pressure and check the heat level of your screen continuously.
