For a simple festive project, consider making homemade Christmas ornaments using beads and wire: perfect for creating a truly one-of-a-kind Christmas tree, or giving to family and friends as gifts. They can also be attached to bows on Christmas packages as cute embellishments. If you are on a budget, use leftover beads from previous craft projects or broken jewellery; this is an economical way to create new Christmas ornaments.

Instructions

    Christmas Candy Cane

  1. 1

Cut a 4-inch piece of silver wire using wire cutters, and form a small loop at one end with pliers.

  2. 2

Slide beads onto the wire in the pattern of your choice. Alternating red and white beads is perfect for a candy cane ornament. The small loop you have created will stop the beads from sliding off.

  3. 3

Make a loop at the other end of the wire after you have added all your beads, then bend the beaded wire into the shape of a candy cane.

  4. 4

Cut an 8-inch piece of silver wire. Starting at the bottom, wrap the wire around the candy cane in an upwards direction until you reach the top. This helps maintain the shape of the decoration.

  5. 5

Cut a 4-inch length of thread and tie it around the top of the candy cane, creating a loop to hang on a branch of your Christmas tree.

    Beaded Charm Ornament

  1. 1

Cut a 5-inch piece of silver wire using wire cutters, and make a small loop at one end with the pliers.

  2. 2

Slide beads onto the wire in a pattern of your choice. Red and green beads are ideal for bright festive ornaments. For something more elegant, use silver- and gold-coloured beads.

  3. 3

Make a loop at the other end of the wire after you have added all your beads, then twist the two ends together to create a circle.

  4. 4

Cut a piece of silver wire measuring 10 inches. Starting at the bottom of the circle, wrap the wire until it is looped around the whole circle. This will help maintain the shape.

  5. 5

Attach your Christmas charm to the centre of the ornament using the jump ring. Angels, bells and Christmas trees make pretty and festive charms.

  6. 6

Cut a 4-inch length of thread and loop it around the circle, tying it at the top to create a hanger for your Christmas tree ornament.
