The Construction Skills Certification Scheme is a UK program that works to improve quality and reduce accidents in the construction industry. Workers qualified in a range of construction-related skills can apply for a CSCS card to demonstrate their competence to potential employers. More than 1.5 million people now hold cards. Renewing a CSCS card is straightforward.

Skill level:

  1. 1

Retake the health and safety test relating to your occupation. This must be retaken each time you renew your card to ensure your knowledge is up-to-date. You can book a time to take the touch-screen test on the CSCS website or by calling 0344-994-4488.

  2. 2

Ask your employer for written confirmation of your job title and duties, so that you can prove to CSCS what role you fulfil.

  3. 3

Apply for a new card. You can do this either by calling SkillsDirect on 0844 248 5262, or by visiting the CSCS website and clicking on "Download an Application Form."

  4. 4

Complete the form, enclose the renewal payment and return the form to CSCS, PO Box 114, Bircham Newton, King's Lynn, Norfolk, PE31 6XD.
