With the Hyundai Elantra, the back seats are made with ease of access in mind, so removing the seats is a simple matter of a few minutes' worth of time and the use of a few small hand tools from around the house.

Instructions

  1. 1

Open both doors of the Elantra and push the driver's seat and the passenger's seat as far forward as they will go, and incline the seat up against the dashboard of the car. Look just below the bottom edge of the seat cushions on the back seat and locate the bolts holding the cushions in place. Use a socket and the ratchet to loosen and remove the bolts.

  2. 2

Locate the small straps that should be sticking out from underneath the cushions, like little canvas tongues. Situate yourself in the centre of the back seat and pull upwards on the strap while at the same time pushing the seat cushion towards the rear of the Elantra to unclip the cushions from their clips underneath the seats. Find the bolts at the base of the seat back and loosen and remove them to take out the seat cushions.

  3. 3

Loosen and remove the bolts holding the seat back in place. Locate these bolts on the base of the seat cushion after the cushions have been removed, and use a socket and ratchet to unscrew them. Lift up and towards the front of the vehicle to unmount the rear seat back from its mountings, and remove it from the vehicle.

  4. 4

Perform desired maintenance and then reverse the entire process to reinstall the rear seat in your Elantra to factory specifications. Ensure the seat back and the cushions are firmly mounted in their clips before you tighten any bolts.
