For a younger person, starting a babysitting business can be a great way to earn extra money. However, in order to give clients the confidence to entrust you with the care of their children, it is important to be professional. In addition to taking a babysitting course that will give you the essential skills to be a quality caregiver, you should take the time to create promotional materials. A business card is a good place to start and need not require any financial investment on your part.

Skill level:

  1. 1

Load business card stock into your home printer. If you do not have any business card stock, use good quality paper. This could be paper that fits into the printer or craft paper, if you are making the cards by hand and not using a computer template.

  2. 2

Download a free babysitting card template from a business card website. If you are making your cards by hand, sketch out what you want your cards to look like on a scrap piece of paper.

Handmade cards should be of business card size and you should plan a design that is consistent with your artistic ability. In other words, do not plan a design that is too complicated for you to execute, especially if the pattern will distract from the purpose of your cards, which is to sell your babysitting services.

  3. 3

Enter your information onto the template. If you are making the cards by hand, print the information neatly. Include your name and contact information, such as your phone number and e-mail. Discuss this with your parents so they know the information you are placing on your cards. Include a brief note about your credentials, including what babysitting courses you have taken.

  4. 4

Print your cards onto the card stock. If you are drawing the cards by hand, create several so you have a supply on hand to give to friends and family. It is a good idea to limit your babysitting services to families you know well. Always let your parents know to whom you have given your cards.
