Software companies often provide free trial downloads. The theory is that you will like the software enough that, when the trial expires, you will pay to keep using it. When you do purchase it, you generally get a serial key code. Entering that key into the software unlocks the full version. The tricky thing is, uninstalling the software often does not uninstall the serial key, too. For this, you have to perform an extra step.

Select "Control Panel" from the Start menu.
Click "Programs and Files."
Click the program whose serial key you wish to remove. Once you enter a serial key, you cannot remove it without uninstalling the program (you can reinstall it later).
Click "Uninstall" and confirm the removal.
Clean your registry with a registry cleaner. Dozens are available online, both basic free programs and costly advanced programs. Serial keys are usually stored in your computer's registry. The cleaner will detect that the key you want to remove is no longer associated with any program and remove the key for you.
