How to Change the Wiper Blades in a Dodge Grand Caravan
Replacing inserts or whole blade assemblies takes only a few minutes. (man working on car image by palms from Fotolia.com)

Once wiper blades begin to make dull scraping noises on your Dodge Caravan, you need to replace them. Dull wipers will perform less well. You have two possible replacement options. You can either replace the Dodge Caravan's entire wiper blade assembly, or you can replace only the rubber insert. The choice between the two depends on how much money you are willing to spend or want to save. Both replacement options should only take a few minutes.

Instructions

  1. 1

Pull the Dodge Caravan's driver-side wiper arm off the windshield and into an upright position.

  2. 2

Locate the metal tabs at the end of the wiper blade assembly and pick one. It does not matter which. Use pliers and bend the metal tab outwards. Depending on the manufacturer of your wiper blades, there may not be a metal tab, but rather a set of rods that need to be "opened."

  3. 3

Slip the old, worn rubber blade out of the wiper assembly. Then, slip the new replacement blade into place.

  4. 4

Use your pliers to bend the metal tab or rods back into place.

  5. 5

Lower the wiper blade back to its original place on the windshield. Repeat this process for the remaining windshield wiper blade, as well as the wiper blade on the Caravan's rear windshield.

  1. 1

Lift the Dodge Caravan's driver-side wiper arm off the windshield and into an upright position.

  2. 2

Locate and release the locking safety tab at the centre of the wiper blade. It will be where the wiper arm's J-shaped hook latches into the wiper blade assembly.

  3. 3

Pull the wiper blade assembly off the wiper arm. It should slide out without struggle. If the blade resists, recheck the locking safety tab and ensure that it has been disconnected.

  4. 4

Pull the new wiper assembly onto the Caravan's arm. The hook at the end of the wiper arm will easily latch into the wiper blade's centre connection point. As the wiper blade assembly is pulled into place, the locking safety tab will "click" into place. If you do not hear this "click," try pulling a little harder and inspect the safety tab to ensure it is not defective.

  5. 5

Return the driver's-side wiper blade to its original place on the windshield and repeat the process on the passenger side and rear window wiper blades.

Tips and warnings

  • You can find the Dodge Caravan's wiper blade sizes online or at most stores where auto parts are sold. The Dodge Caravan's wiper sizes should be 28 inches on the driver's and passenger's sides, and 16 inches on the rear.
