Piston rings play a large part in making sure the engine works correctly on your Alfa Romeo. Depending on the horsepower you are looking for in your engine, there are a number of different pistons you can use. To find the correct piston ring for your vehicle, check your vehicle's owner's manual or consult a local mechanic. The piston rings should be monitored on a regular basis to determine their condition. If they do require replacement, the procedure should be carried out immediately.

  1. 1

Clean the engine as much as possible by removing any built up debris or grease. Remove the engine head to gain access to the cylinders.

  2. 2

Remove the safety bolts that hold the piston cylinders in place with a wrench. The two nuts between the induction casing and the cylinder will require extra force.

  3. 3

Remove the piston pins with a piston mandrel. Remove the piston rings with a piston expander. Check the condition of each ring groove.

  4. 4

Replace any piston rings that are damaged. Take your time when carrying out this procedure as you could break the ring if you stretch it too far.

  5. 5

Ensure the piston rings are tightly in place before putting the engine back together. Turn on your Alfa Romeo to test that the engine is working correctly. Look for any potential leaks coming from the engine.
