When you change a password or sign up for a new online service, an activation code is provided via e-mail. This e-mail prompts you to click on a link that redirects you to a web page where you'll need to enter the activation code. When visiting this web page, your IP address can be accessed by the activation-code sender. Your IP reveals various personal details such as your physical location as well as the ISP and computer you operate. You can successfully hide your IP when submitting an activation code by using an anonymous proxy to access the website.
