Transporting equipment on a regular basis requires a lot of free space. A trailer linked to your vehicle is the best way to create the required room. While some people may not have the money to afford an expensive trailer, it is possible to make one yourself at a minimum cost. The process is fairly simple and can be completed by anyone in their garage. Ensure you have the correct tools and safety equipment in place before beginning the procedure.

Things you need

  1. 1

Construct a frame using the angle irons. The box should be 6 foot by 10 foot. Cross brace the frame with the iron bars at 2.5 foot intervals.

  2. 2

Acquire an axle and wheel that is connected to a towing tongue --- they can often be found for cheap at scrap and junk yards. Attach the wheels and axles to the iron base frame. Weld the contact points between the axle and the frame.

  3. 3

Attach the plywood to the bottom of the frame to create a base. Hammer 4 pieces of the 1 inch by 4 inch wooden boards on to the plywood for added support. Use the required number of plywood to cover the pieces of wood.

  4. 4

Cover the outer layers of the trailer with sheet metal for added protection. The metal can be welded to the frame or simply nailed in place depending on personal preference.

  5. 5

Attach the trailer to the tow bar on your vehicle. Take the vehicle for a drive along a quiet street to ensure the trailer works correctly.

Tips and warnings

  • When using welding equipment ensure you wear the correct clothing and safety goggles to protect you from any flames.
