While some people might find freckles lovable and adorable, especially on young children and redheads, not everyone feels this way. If you are an adult who believes you need to look your age and or you have a child who is constantly teased because of his or her freckles, there are a few home remedies you can use to get rid of the freckles. Bleaching agents and laser treatments also help to remove unwanted freckles. While these provide immediate results, they can be expensive. Keep in mind that while freckles can be successfully removed in a week's time, the darker the freckles are, the longer it will take to get rid of them.
Rub lemon juice or onion on your face or skin. Use a cotton ball or your fingertip and gently cover the area thoroughly. Both lemons and onions have the same exfoliating power but lemons smell better. Your skin will be lighter because of the acidic properties of the foods. Make sure the lemon juice is freshly squeezed and not canned. The preservatives, artificial fragrances and colourants will hurt your face.
Rub papaya juice on your face. Papain, an enzyme in papaya, will help to fade the freckles.
Use cucumber. Grate the cucumber into small pieces and extract the juice. Combine it with 1 tbsp of lemon and 1 tbsp of honey.
Take vitamin supplements. Increase your vitamin C intake through either a supplement or foods that are high in vitamin C including strawberries, grapes, apples and oranges.
Mix parsley juice with lemon juice and orange juice. Apply under your mask.
Wash your face with sour milk. The lactic acid will help to peel your skin without drying or irritation.
Use vitamin E oil. This might take longer than some of the other remedies but it is the gentlest way to get rid of freckles because it won't dry your face out.
Research modern treatments. Doctors recommend freezing freckles with liquid nitrogen or laser treatments. Both treatments are quick but expensive. Chemical peels are effective but have a prolonged recovery time. Resurfacing is painful and can damage your skin.
Consider a bleaching alternative. This treatment masks the appearance of freckles in order to make them fade to your natural skin colour. It might backfire by changing the colour of your skin, however, and leave you with more distinctive freckles than you originally had. Research the side effects as these agents can cause rashes or burns in people who have sensitive skin.
Keep masks on for 15 minutes. Use sunscreen every day. If one recipe is not working, try another one. Everybody will have different results.
