How to Knit Wine Bottle Covers

Updated February 21, 2017

If you are going to a housewarming party, it is customary to give the hostess a thoughtful token gift, such as a bottle of wine. One way to make the gift even more thoughtful is to insert the wine bottle into a decorative bottle cover. You can make your own hand knit wine bottle cover using a few basic materials. Once finished, the wine bottle cover will make the wine bottle look artistic and homey.

Cast on 20 stitches onto size 10 circular knitting needles using DK weight yarn.

Adjust the stitches so that they are all facing the same way.

Knit the stitches in the round using a basic knit stitch until you have about 12-inches of knitting.

Cast off all of the stitches.

Thread a velvet ribbon through the stitches on the top of the form.

Insert a wine bottle into the cover, and pull the velvet ribbon to tighten the cover around the bottle.

Things You'll Need

  • DK weight yarn, 1-skein
  • Size 10 circular knitting needles
  • Scissors
  • Velvet ribbon
  • Wine bottle
