FTA or "Free To Air" satellite channels provide free satellite television signals to anyone with a satellite dish. The major drawback to FTA satellite television is that the keys identifying these supposedly "free" channels are frequently changed by pay satellite television companies. When the keys change, the new keys must be entered in order to continue receiving the television signal. Once you have the updated keys for the channels, knowing how to input them into your satellite receiver is crucial.

Enter the main menu of your satellite receiver using your satellite receiver remote.
Select the menu option for entering the satellite "key."
Use the remote to type in the satellite key. FTA satellite keys are generally 20 characters long with two pairs of 10 letters or numbers. Most satellite receivers have an onscreen keypad which can be used to type in letters.
Verify the satellite key and accept the change. If the key is correct, the satellite receiver should start receiving the satellite signal.
