MP4 players are small, portable devices that allow you to play both audio and video files on the go. These are exceptional to travel with, especially when on long flights and bus rides. If your MP4 player begins to function incorrectly, you may need to upgrade the firmware. This can be accomplished anywhere in the world (including China) as long as you have a computer and USB data cable.

Open your Internet browser on your computer system and navigate to the website of the MP4 player's manufacturer.
Select the "Support" option, then choose the make and model of your MP4 player. The exact phrasing may differ slightly, depending on the website you are using.
Choose the "Downloads" option. All the available downloads for the MP4 player will be listed, including the latest firmware update. Click the firmware update to download the information to your computer.
Plug the USB data cable into the USB port on the MP4 player, then attach the free end of the cable to a USB port on your computer system. The computer will state it has detected the connected device.
Click "Start" and "Computer," then double-click the MP4 icon. A window will load with all the file information saved on the device. Click and drag the downloaded firmware to the open window. Once the MP4 player detects the imported firmware, an upload icon will appear on the device's LCD display. Do not disconnect the MP4 player from the computer until the device informs you it is safe to do so.
