A heavy appliance--for example, a dishwasher or refrigerator--can cause scratches in a floor if pushed. To move a heavy appliance without scratching the floor, use furniture floor gliders beneath the appliance. Furniture floor gliders come in a variety of sizes and at a minimal cost. You don't need special equipment to use the floor gliders.

  1. 1

Measure the width of the legs or supports on the bottom of the appliance. Purchase furniture floor gliders with a diameter that's a bit wider than the measurement taken.

  2. 2

Remove the sticky paper backing off one side of the gliders. Unplug the power cord from the appliance.

  3. 3

Hold a glider with the sticky side facing up. Lift the left front corner of the appliance. Place the sticky side of the glider against the bottom of the left front corner. Put the appliance down. Repeat this procedure with the other three gliders and the appliance's remaining corners.

  4. 4

Stand at the back or side of the appliance, depending upon its placement on the floor. Push the back or side of the appliance to move it without scratching the floor.
