Disconnecting the daytime running lights, also known as DRLs, on your 2007 Volvo S40 is very simple. The DRLs turn on automatically in darker conditions, but they can be disconnected by cutting a wire on your headlight relay. However, keep in mind that this is a permanent disconnection. If you wish to enable your DRLs again, you will have to purchase a new headlight relay.

  1. 1

Turn off your S40's engine. Lift the bonnet and prop it open.

  2. 2

Open the fuse box on the right side of the engine compartment.

  3. 3

Pull out the headlight relay. The headlight relay is the largest green relay and fits into the double socket.

  4. 4

Remove the cover from the headlight relay by simultaneously disengaging all four snap-fits. Find the pin marked "56b." Use the cutters to snap the pin.

  5. 5

Reattach the cover to the headlight relay and place the relay back into the fuse box. Reattach the cover to the fuse box and close the bonnet.
