How to extend a USB cable using a coax

You can extend the distance of a conventional USB cable by connecting it to a coaxial cable. A coax USB adaptor will allow the coax and USB cables to connect to each other without either having to be modified. Once you convert one USB cable to the coax, convert the other end of the coax back to USB, and you'll have one extended USB cable. The coax USB adaptor is available from electronics stores and requires no set-up.

  • 2 USB cables, 6 feet

Instructions

  1. 1

    Insert one end of the USB cable into a USB port on the desktop computer. Insert the other end of the USB cable into the USB port on the coax USB adaptor.

  2. 2

    Screw one end of the coaxial cable into the coax connector on the coax USB adaptor.

  3. 3

    Screw the free end of the coaxial cable into the coax connector on the second coax USB adaptor.

  4. 4

    Insert one end of the second USB cable into the USB port on the coax USB adaptor.
