A universal remote control may be programmed to operate different types of audio and video devices. The process of programming a universal remote to control an Amino set top box depends on the brand and model number of the control you are using. For example Logitech, Sony and Phillips all manufacture popular universal remote control models. You'll find that programming a Logitech Harmony universal remote control is a very different process than is programming a Sony RM-VLZ620 or a Phillips SRP1003/27.

Instructions

    Logitech Harmony Universal Remote

  1. 1

Launch your web browser and go to the Logitech Harmony website (see Resources) and log into your account. If you do not have an account set up yet, you will be prompted to download and install the Logitech Harmony software onto your computer when you click the "Sign in to my account" link. Follow the on screen-instructions to install the software and create an account.

  2. 2

Use an USB cable to connect the remote to the computer.

  3. 3

Go to the "Devices" tab and click the "Add Device" button. Select "Video Recorder" / "PVR" as the device type. Open the "select manufacturer" drop-down menu and select "Amino." Enter the model number of your Amino set top box. Click "Next."

  4. 4

Follow the remaining prompts to finish programming the remote control. The prompts are self explanatory.

  5. 5

Disconnect the remote from the USB cable. Your remote is now programmed.

    Sony RM-VLZ620 Universal Remote

  1. 1

Manually turn on the Amino set top box.

  2. 2

Simultaneously press and hold the "Set" and Menu" buttons on the Sony universal remote. Release the buttons when the component select buttons (labelled "TV," "CBL," "DVR," "DVD" and so forth) at the top of the remote begin to flash.

  3. 3

Press the "DVR" component select button. Use the remote's number pad to enter one of the following five-digit device code numbers: 51602 or 51822.

  4. 4

Aim the remote at the Amino set top box and press the "Power" button. If the box shuts off, the remote is now programmed to work with the Amino set top box. If the device fails to shut off, repeat Steps 2 through 4 using the alternate five-digit device code number from Step 3.

    Phillips SRP1003/27 Universal Remote

  1. 1

Manually turn on the Amino set top box.

  2. 2

Press and hold the "Setup" button at the top of the remote. Release the button when the red indicator light (located next to the "Setup" button) comes on and remains lit.

  3. 3

Push the "CBL" component select button. Use the remote's number pad to enter "0."

  4. 4

Aim the remote at the Amino set top box and press the "Channel Up" button. Slowly repeat until the channel on the set top box changes. Each time the "Channel Up" button is pressed, the remote control tests a different code from its code library on the Amino set top box. When the channel on the Amino set top box finally changes, it means the remote is temporarily programmed with the correct device code.

  5. 5

Press the "Mute" button to save the current device code.
