Throw blankets work double duty as home decor and items to snuggle up under while reading or watching TV. The handy blankets are available in a range of materials, such as chenille, woven organic cotton, cashmere, faux fur, fleece, silk and wool. Choose a fabric, pattern and colour, such as blue or brown, to coordinate with the overall look of the room. A throw blanket adds instant colour to a boring, neutral-hued couch.

  1. 1

Choose a throw blanket in a colour, pattern and material to match a room's decor. Pick a patterned or colourful blanket to enhance a plain couch or bed covering. Drape a black and white zebra print blanket on an all-white or black couch to add an exotic touch. Arrange a turquoise or sunny yellow blanket on a white or tan comforter in a bedroom to add vibrancy to the space.

  2. 2

Place a decorative throw blanket over the top of a couch or love seat and allow it to drape over the front and back. Fold a large blanket widthways prior to draping it over the furniture to create a streamlined look.

  3. 3

Set a throw blanket at the foot of a bed to add visual interest and to have on hand during chilly nights. Fold a large blanket widthways before placing it at the end of the bed.

  4. 4

Decorate with a festive, seasonal throw blanket to celebrate a specific holiday or time of year. Enhance a couch with a whimsical snowman-patterned blanket during the winter or a spooky witch and ghost-printed blanket for Halloween. Rotate the decorative blankets throughout the year.
