How to Reset the HP Toner Smart Chip
Smart chips can be replaced on a toner cartridge. (Used ink cartridges for recycling image by itsallgood from Fotolia.com)

The HP printer monitors the amount of ink in the toner cartridge via a smart chip. These smart chips can detect when the ink in the cartridge is low and send a warning message to your display. Once you get this message, your printer will not print. Sometimes, however, the smart chip displays this warning when the ink cartridge is not low. Resetting the HP printer will also reset the toner smart chip and allow you to print again.
