The Audi Concert stereo unit has a security mechanism that ensures that the unit will not work if it is removed from the car. If you have turned the radio on and all you see is "SAFE" on the display, then for some reason the security mechanism has been activated. This will happen, for example, after the battery has been changed or disconnected. But unlocking your Concert unit is as easy as entering the correct four-digit radio key that was assigned to it at the factory.

Things you need
- 4-digit Audi stereo code
Press "FM2" and "RDS" at the same time and hold them down until "1000" appears on the display. Do not press these buttons again until you are finished unlocking the Concert unit.
Press the "1" button the number of times equal to the value of the first digit in the radio code. For example, if the code is 9876, press the "1" button nine times. The number 9 will appear on the display. If you don't have the code, contact your Audi dealer or go to the Radio Code website (see Resources) to get it.
Repeat Step 2 with the "2," "3" and "4" buttons until all four digits of the code appear on the display.
Press "FM2" and "RDS" at the same time and hold them down until "SAFE" appears on the display. The Audi Concert should unlock after a few seconds.
Tips and warnings
- After two unsuccessful attempts to unlock the Audi Concert, the system will lock up for an hour before you can try again. The stereo must be left on for the duration of that hour.
