After approximately 20,000 copies, your Sharp AI2040 will flash its drum light, indicating that it is time for you to replace the drum inside your copying machine. Although the task may at first seem daunting, replacing a drum is fairly simple and only takes a few minutes.

  1. 1

Open the multibypass tray. This is the paper release tray on the end of the copying machine.

  2. 2

Open the side cover and then the front cover panels on the machine.

  3. 3

Press the lock release button beneath the TD cartridge and gently pull it out of the machine.

  4. 4

Grasp the drum cartridge by its handle and gently pull it out from the machine.

  5. 5

Unwrap the new drum cartridge. Keep your fingers away from the green portion of the unwrapped cartridge -- touching this part of the unit will make the copier's prints smudgy.

  6. 6

Grasp the new cartridge by its handle and insert it into the drum cartridge mount. Reinsert the TD cartridge and close the multibypass tray, the front panel and the side panel.
