Printers, such as the Epson CX5400, come with waste ink absorber pads which are created to catch excess ink and avoid damaging the printer and the printed material. The pad can be replaced if necessary, but it is also possible to clean the pad with water. While you will not be able to wash all of the ink out of the pad it will significantly improve your printing quality if the pad is cleaned regularly. It is advised to clean the pad each time you replace the printer ink cartridge.

Instructions

  1. 1

Open the printer and locate the waste ink absorber near the ink cartridge.

  2. 2

Remove the absorber pad and hold it in cold water while squeezing the ink out. It would be wise to wear gloves while doing this, because the ink in the pad will leave stains.

  3. 3

Use paper towels to dry the waste ink absorber pad. Let it dry completely before installing it in the printer.

  4. 4

Reinstall the ink pad into the printer and run a test page to make sure it works.
