Even though GSM network carriers are rapidly expanding their coverage, you may still not get optimal signal in certain locations. Sometimes your phone stops working in a particular room of your house. Luckily, there are some steps that you can take to improve the signal strength of your GSM cell phone and get better reception.

  1. 1

Restart your phone. Often when your phone is receiving low GSM signals, turning it off and back on can cause it to obtain the best possible signal. Once it restarts, check the signal bars and see if there's an improvement in the coverage.

  2. 2

Rearrange the phone's position. If you're inside a building, try going near an open window or any open space. You may also want to rearrange your furniture to better accommodate particular spots that receive better signal.

  3. 3

Purchase a GSM signal-boosting antenna. Some antennas connect between your phone and an external antenna while others connect with a car kit. You can purchase the antenna from any store that sells cell phone accessories. You can also buy it online (see Resources).
