How to Flash HP Printer Firmware

The firmware of your HP printer is the main program that allows it to operate. Think of it like an operating system for your printer. Occasionally, HP releases firmware upgrades for all of its hardware for free on the company's website. The update process for firmware is called "flashing." All you need to know is the exact model number of HP printer you own, which is affixed to the printer's case.

    Open your Web browser and go to the HP "Support & Drivers" website (see References).

    Check the "Download drivers and software (and firmware)" box and type your printer's model number (located on the printer itself) into the box on the screen. Click the "Search" button to bring up the page for your HP printer.
