Calculating the hours you work in a year can be extremely useful for financial planning or, if you are an exempt salaried employee who is not paid overtime, in determining your actual hourly wage. A standard, 40-hour workweek, worked for 52 weeks, means 2,080 hours worked in a year. However, if your hours are irregular, you will need to generate an average number of hours and then calculate the yearly hours using that figure. Of course, things may change throughout the year, but at least you will have a baseline figure to work with.

Track the number of hours you work in a week. Pick a normal sample week, not one where you are working a lot of extra hours, or are out of work an unusual amount of time. If your schedule is regular each week, add the total hours for the week and use that number.
Multiply the weekly hours from Step 1 by the number of weeks you work in a year. Include paid vacation weeks off, if you have them. If you plan to take off unpaid time, subtract those weeks from 52 weeks in a year. For example, if you will have two weeks of paid vacation, and will take off two weeks unpaid for personal reasons, multiply your weekly hours by 50 to get an annual figure. If your weekly hours average out to 36, you would work 1,800 hours for the year in this example.
Calculate your annual wages for hourly work by multiplying the total annual hours by your hourly wage. For 1,800 hours at £10.40 per hour, that means £18,720 in gross income.
Calculate your hourly wage from an annual salary by dividing the annual salary by the hours worked in a year. If you are paid £27,300 annually, and you work 1,800 hours, your effective hourly wage is £15.10.
