How to Program an Alpha Rex LEGO Robot

The Alpha Rex Lego Robot, like all other Lego Mindstorms robots, is powered by the Lego Mindstorms NXT brick with the 16-bit microprocessor unit. The NXT brick has input port for controlling the Alpha Rex motor and sensors. By programming the Alpha Rex's NXT brick, you can make the robot perform various types of actions, such as moving in a predetermined direction or picking up objects.

    Install the supplied Lego Brainstorms software onto your computer, then launch the application. The application's main window will open once you launch it.

    Drag and drop the desired command icon blocks, located in the left side toolbar in the main window of the application window, onto the main window grid. The application has an icon-based programming language that uses the position of where you place the icon's block on the window grid to determine what actions the robot will perform.

    Select "File," then "Save" once you have placed your desired selection of programming blocks onto the window grid to save the program.

    Press the orange "Enter/ON" button on the NXT brick to turn the robot on.

    Connect the NXT brick for the Alpha Rex robot to your computer via a USB cord. The Lego Mindstorms application will automatically detect the NXT brick.

    Select the "Transfer" icon in the secondary top menu in the application window and a dialogue window will open with a listing of programs available for transfer to the NXT brick. Select the program you created from the list and select "OK."
