The coolant in your 2002 Lexus RX-300 is used to help prevent the engine from overheating. The coolant moves from the radiator to the engine and then back again, carrying heat as it goes. Over time your coolant can become contaminated with debris from the engine and requires replacement. You can pick up replacement coolant for your vehicle from your local auto store.

Instructions

  1. 1

Turn off the engine in your Lexus and leave it to completely cool down before you begin any of the work.

  2. 2

Place a drain pan directly underneath the radiator. This will be used to collect any coolant that comes out of the radiator.

  3. 3

Locate the drain plug on the radiator. You will find the plug at the bottom of the radiator.

  4. 4

Pull the drain plug off the radiator. The coolant will then run out of the radiator and in to the drain pan. Reattach the drain plug.

  5. 5

Remove the cap on the top of the radiator and pour the new coolant in to the radiator. Place the cap back on and turn on the engine before travel to allow the new coolant to work its way around the radiator and engine.
