TomTom GPS devices are eligible for a program called Map Share, a service that allows users to amend current maps and share their corrections with others. Each time a TomTom is connected to a user's computer and TomTom Home opens, updates are uploaded for sharing. However, Map Share updates can only be shared if a user has a map that is no more than one year old--trying to update an old map will result in an error message. If your TomTom device will no longer work with Map Share, you must get a new map.

  3. 3

Wait for TomTom to search for the newest map available for your device. The newest version will appear as "Online," with a description and the price.

  5. 5

Leave your device connected until the new map has completed downloading to your device.

Tips and warnings

  • Before you purchase a map, go to "Manage my Device" in TomTom Home to make sure you have enough memory space on your device to support it.
