Putting your E46 on jack stands is a straightforward procedure that simply requires a floor jack, jack stands and about 15 to 20 minutes of your time. As you will be raising your car, a very heavy object, into the air, it is important to exercise caution when raising the car and lowering it onto the jack stands.

Locate the four jack points on the bottom of your E46. They are located under the side skirt along the side of the car and designated by notches that provide a slight indentation into the subframe of the car.
Position the jack underneath each jack point and raise the car.
Insert the jack stand under the car and position it so that the subframe will rest on top of it.
Lower the jack until the subframe is rested on the jack stand.
Repeat Steps 3 and 4 for each of your E46's corners, as needed.
