Low-voltage landscape lighting isn't much use without the transformer, and a transformer doesn't help if you can't choose when you want the lights to turn on and off. Without the timer set correctly on the transformer, it's just like having Christmas lights on in July -- it looks pretty, but out of place. A Malibu lighting transformer comes supplied with the built-in timer, allowing you to choose the time of day you wish the transformer to turn your landscape lighting on and off.

Instructions

    Digital Timer/Transformer

  1. 1

Press the "Mode" button on the Malibu landscape lighting digital timer/transformer until numbers appear beginning with "1." Other displayed features include "f" to turn the timer off, "o" for the timer to turn your lights on and leave them on and "d" sets the timer to operate from dusk to dawn.

  2. 2

Scroll through the numbers "1" through "9" by pressing the "Mode" button. These numbers represent the number of hours the lights remain on after dusk. Choose the number of hours you want your landscape lighting to remain on.

  3. 3

Push the "Light Level" button to adjust the sensitivity to the light level where your timer/transformer mounts. The light levels are indicated as "0" through "9" with "0" the most sensitive to a decrease in sunlight.

    Rotary Timer/Transformer

  1. 1

Turn the dial on the Malibu timer/transformer clockwise to set the current time. The large arrow in the centre of the timer points to the current time. Make sure you choose a grey number if setting an a.m. time and a black number if setting a p.m. time.

  2. 2

Insert a red tripper into the teeth along the outside edge of the dial for the time you wish the timer/transformer to turn your landscape lights on. Malibu timer/transformers come with two sets of trippers so you can choose an additional time for your lights to turn on.

  3. 3

Insert a black tripper into the teeth along the outside edge of the dial for the time you wish the timer/transformer to turn your landscape lights off. If you chose to turn the lights on more than once a day, use the second black tripper to choose an additional time to turn your lights off.
