    Take the CD out of the CD-ROM drive if you are attempting to install a program from a disc. Wipe the disc off in a circular motion with a soft, clean cloth. Place the disc in the CD-ROM drive, and attempt to install the software again. Proceed to Step 2 if these instructions are ineffective.

    Click "Start" and "Computer," and then right-click "Local Disk (C:)." Click "Properties" and open the "Tools" tab. Click "Check Now" and then "Continue" when the User Account Control prompt appears.

    Place a check by the options "Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors." Click "Schedule check disk" when the prompt appears. Restart your PC, and allow the error-checking tool to scan and repair the problem causing the "Not a valid win 32 application" error message.
