The Lexmark 43XL cartridge is tricolour. The cartridge holds magenta, yellow and cyan ink. This cartridge is also refillable, which makes the Lexmark cartridge more environmentally friendly than other cartridges. The 43XL cartridge uses the same ink as the Lexmark 43 cartridge. To refill the ink, you must insert each colour into the correct chamber. Be sure not to reuse your syringe when refilling each colour. Each colour ink should have its own syringe to prevent the colours from mixing and becoming diluted.
- Skill level:
Things you need
- 3 syringes
- Refill magenta, cyan and yellow ink
- Paper towels
Place paper towels down on a flat surface. Make sure the surface can tolerate an ink spill.
Turn the Lexmark 43XL cartridge so the label is facing you and the words on the label are right-side up.
Peel away the top label of the Lexmark 43XL cartridge. Notice the three holes underneath. Each hole represents a different chamber for each colour ink. The magenta chamber is the single hole at the top of the cartridge, the yellow chamber is the hole on the bottom-left and the cyan chamber is the hole on the bottom-right.
Insert the syringe into the magenta colour ink refill bottle. Fill the syringe with 7ml of magenta ink.
Insert the syringe into the magenta chamber. As you insert ink into magenta chamber, cover the other two holes with your fingers or a piece of tape to keep ink from spilling out. Insert the ink until the chamber is full or ink begins to spill out of the magenta hole.
Insert another syringe into the yellow colour ink refill bottle. Fill up the syringe with 7ml of yellow ink.
Insert the syringe into the yellow chamber which is the one on the bottom left. As you insert ink into yellow chamber, cover the other two holes with your fingers or a piece of tape to keep ink from spilling out. Insert the ink until the chamber is full or ink begins to spill out of the yellow hole.
Insert another syringe into the cyan colour ink refill bottle. Fill up the syringe with 7ml of cyan ink. Insert the syringe into each cyan chamber which is one the bottom left. Insert the ink until the chamber is full or ink begins to spill out of the cyan hole.
Replace the top label or leave it off. Replace the cartridge in the Lexmark printer. Run it through one to three cleaning cycles, or print the page provided in the Resources section.
