The Garmin Nuvi 205W is a portable GPS device. It uses satellite technology to help you find your way on the road. After you turn it on, you wait for it to pick up the satellite signal and enter your destination on the touch screen. Sometimes, however, this process isn't so simple. Instructions

  1. 1

Turn on your Garmin Nuvi 205W by pressing the power key and wait a few minutes for it to pick up the satellite signal. The signal can be blocked if you're indoors, inside a parking garage or near any tall buildings or even trees. Move to a new location if the satellite signal cannot be found.

  2. 2

Regulate the temperature inside your vehicle to help your Garmin Nuvi 205W battery charge properly. Make sure the atmosphere inside your vehicle is higher than 32 degrees and lower than 45 degrees Celsius.

  3. 3

Turn down the brightness level of your Garmin Nuvi 205W screen if your battery loses power quickly. To do this, touch the "Tools" icon on the main screen. Touch "Settings" and "Display." Touch "Brightness" to turn down the brightness level.

  4. 4

Wash the inside of your windshield and the suction cup of your Garmin Nuvi 205W if it won't mount properly. Clean each surface with rubbing alcohol and dry thoroughly before mounting.

  5. 5

Calibrate your screen if your Garmin Nuvi 205W does not respond properly when you touch it. To do this, press and hold the upper-left-hand corner of the screen while pressing the power button. The Garmin screen will appear. Stop pressing the power button but continue to touch the screen for about 30 seconds. This will prompt calibration of the screen.
