The Lexmark 36XL is a black ink computer cartridge used in several Lexmark printer models. It is often paired with the Lexmark 37, a colour ink cartridge, to supply the full spectrum of colour to the printer. If you want to avoid buying a replacement cartridge, you can instead purchase replacement ink and reuse the empty Lexmark 36. Once the cartridge is refilled it will produce printing results comparable to a brand-new Lexmark 36.

Skill level:
Moderately Easy

Things you need

  • Syringe
  • Black printer ink
  • Thumb drill

  1. 1

Load the refilling syringe with 15 millilitre of black ink

  2. 2

Remove the cartridge from the printer and tear off the Lexmark label on the top surface.

  3. 3

Drill into any of the refilling holes on the top of the cartridge with a thumb drill to accommodate the tip of the refilling syringe.

  4. 4

Fit the refilling syringe into the drilled hole and slowly release the ink.

  5. 5

Place the filled cartridge back into the Lexmark printer and allow the ink to settle for eight hours. Run a series of cleaning cycles to clear the printer head and gain the best results.
