The HP Officejet 6500 printer is an all-in-one printer that provides the ability to print in black or colour, scan documents and fax from one device. The automatic document feeder makes scanning multiple-page documents easier. Faxes can be sent at speeds up to 20 pages per minute. Documents can be scanned into an attached computer as well as copied or faxed. You can scan a single or multiple-page document to fax to another person.

Skill level:
Moderately Easy

    Faxing a Scanned Document

  1. 1

Place the original document to be scanned and faxed on the Officejet 6500. If your document has only a single page, you can place it face down on the glass or face up on the automatic document feed (ADF) tray. Multiple-page originals should be placed in the ADF.

  2. 2

Dial the fax number using the keypad or a preprogrammed number. Be sure to include the area code if needed. In some office environments, it may be necessary to dial a number to reach an outside line.

  3. 3

Press the "Start Fax" button on the machine.

  4. 4

Watch the display to verify that the fax sends successfully. Depending on device settings, a page may print indicating success or failure.

    Saving a Scanned Document

  1. 1

Place the original document to be scanned on the Officejet 6500, as directed in Step 1 of "Faxing a Scanned Document," above.

  2. 2

    Press the scan button.

  3. 3

Select the desired scan location using the arrow keys. You can scan directly to a computer attached to the printer by selecting the computer from the list or to an inserted memory card by choosing "Memory Device" from the menu.

  4. 4

    Press "OK."

  5. 5

Press "Start Scan" to begin the scanning.
