A label printer can be a smart investment for a business that frequently mails packages. The DYMO LabelWriter 400 is one such product. It is a thermal printer, which means that you never have to replace an ink cartridge as you would with an inkjet printer. Additionally, the LabelWriter 400 requires no warm-up time and prints labels almost instantly. The drawback is that it requires a specific type of label, which can be expensive. If you have considered the pros and cons of the DYMO LabelWriter 400 and decided that it fits your needs, installing the printer is a quick and easy process.

If you purchased a used printer without a software disc, or if you have misplaced the disc, you can download the driver software from the DYMO website using the link in the Resources section. Proceed through the installation program until you reach the screen that prompts you to connect the label printer to your computer.

  2. 2

Connect one end of the power cable to a wall outlet and connect the other end to the back of the LabelWriter 400.

  3. 3

Connect a USB cable to the back of the LabelWriter 400 and connect the other end of the cable to an open USB port on your computer.

  4. 4

Push the "Form Feed" button on the front of the LabelWriter 400 until the blank protective sheet shipped with the printer is expelled from the front. Open the top cover of the printer.

  5. 5

Remove the label spindle from the LabelWriter 400 and place a roll of labels on it. Push the roll all the way to the end of the spindle, then press the disc on the other end of the spindle until it is firmly next to the roll. Reinstall the spindle. The labels should feed from the bottom of the roll.
