Soulseek lets you download and share files for free with others. It uses peer-to-peer technology that allows you to download a file from a list of several people. In addition to its file sharing capabilities, Soulseek has chat rooms and lets you search for online friends based on screen names or real names. After you configure your settings for uploading and downloading files, you can connect to the Soulseek network and communicate with its members.

Click "File Sharing" under the program's toolbar and click "Add Shared Folder." Select the "slsk" folder that you created and choose an access level when prompted. Click "OK."

  3. 3

Click "Transfers" in the main window and enter the maximum download speed that you wish to use in the "Max D/L" and "Max D/L KBPS" boxes. Enter the maximum upload speeds in the "Max U/L" and "Max U/L KBPS" boxes. If you wish to use a higher upload speed for people on your buddy list, specify that speed in the "Extra list user U/L" box.

  4. 4

Click "Options" and "General Options" and make any changes to the default settings if you wish. Click "OK" when finished. Click "Search Files" and search for the file that you want to download. Right-click the selected file and click "Download File" or "Downloading Containing Folder." Soulseek will download and save the files in the location that you specified.
