Error 1406 occurs when you try to install Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat on your Windows operating system. You may get the following error message: "Could not write value Folders to key..." While there are several plausible reasons for this error, you can follow certain troubleshooting techniques to complete this task.     Remove all previous versions of Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat and then reinstall the product. Navigate to "Control Panel" from the Start menu and select "Programs." Next, select "Programs And Features." Choose the Adobe product and select "Uninstall." Reboot your computer after the uninstall. Navigate to Adobe Website (see Resources) and reinstall the product.

    Remove any malware that may have entered your computer. Click the Start menu and select "Run..." Type "MRT" without the quotes and press the "Enter" key. This will launch the "Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool." Click "Next" when you see the welcome screen. Choose "Full Scan." Follow prompts to remove any malware. Reboot your computer.
